EBEC

Between 1-11th of August, Board of European Students of Technology (BEST) gather 104 top European technical students to compete at European BEST Engineering Competition (EBEC) final in Istanbul, Turkey. This event will collect new ideas and solutions from the most creative young minds in Europe.

This year, 104 inventive engineering students were chosen out of more than 5000 participants through two intensive elimination rounds: 81 local and 13 national/regional BEST engineering competitions. The best 26 teams of 4 students each proved to be ready for the finals by facing real life engineering challenges in the competition’s two categories: Team Design (practical solution with a physical prototype) and Case Study (hypothetical solutions for real-life problems).

The Competition is organized by Board of European Students of Technology(BEST) in partnership with the leading international companies: Kaspersky Lab, Detur, Infineon, Siemens and UNEP. The EBEC’s supporters are the leading agency for management, funding and the conduction of research in Turkey TUBITAK (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey) the leading agency for management, funding and the conduction of research in Turkey, Elginkan Foundation which supports the development of education and technology, SEFI (European Society for Engineering Education) the international supporter of engineering education, UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme) which aims to stress the importance of the environment and create a better quality future life and Istanbul Technical University (ITU) the leading engineering school of Turkey.

The Official Opening Day of the European BEST Engineering Competition, on 2nd of August, 2011, is held at Earthquake Engineering and Disaster Management Institute. It will be attended by participants, organisers, the representatives of TUBITAK, ITU, and the top management of leading international and domestic companies cooperating with BEST. The remaining days of the event will be dedicated to the 3 Team Design and 6 Case Study.

The Official Closing Day (10th of August, 2011), is held at Taşkışla Campus and Feriye Restaurant. During the Closing Ceremony the final decision of the winners, participants’ presentation and prototypes gala, company presentations and an international job fair will take place.
